Research Features Magazine – 122

As we enter the new year we look forward to showcasing new research from around the world and learning how researchers are working to make a difference. This issue we pay homage to the scientists behind our ever-increasing quality of life as we feature the latest in health research. Whether it’s the technology that allows us to peer deep into the body or medicines that extend the lives of those with chronic diseases, it’s easy to see how advances in health and medicine have touched the lives of nearly every person on the planet.

We catch up with Dr Neil Wigglesworth, President of the Infection Prevention Society, who explains IPS’s mission to push for a future where no person is harmed by a preventable infection. David Templeman, President of the Public Health Association of Australia also talks to us about the PHAA’s role as an advocate on the most pressing public health concerns, focusing on protection, prevention and health promotion and the strides made lobbying for change. The Health Research Alliance is committed to popularising research and taking care of science’s most valuable asset, its people. In an exclusive interview, Executive Director Maryrose Franko tells us how HRA supports and promotes research. In our first issue for 2018 we learn more about the fascinating research that’s uncovering insights into our understanding of disease that may one day lead to treatment or prevention.
